It wasn't like they wouldn't find anything out, but they weren't going to get the details that they needed or wanted. It all felt like a cover up, and the biggest worry was the possibility of it happening again, to them, or to someone else. "Though there's no point panicking. It wouldn't get us anywhere fast."
